The Southern Credit Union is a federally insured, non-profit, full-service financial cooperative with headquarters in Fayette County, Georgia. The Southern operates exclusively for the benefit of its membership, working directly with Select Employee Groups (SEGs) that are enrolled as member organizations.
Individuals qualify for membership in one of three ways: they are employees of an enrolled SEG, or they are family members of an eligible credit union member,or live in Coweta, Fayette, Henry or Spalding Counties. Individual members join the credit union by opening a savings account with a minimum deposit of $25. Membership is a permanent benefit, and members may change employers, relocate or retire and still retain their member status with The Southern.
Is My Money Safe?
The NCUA insures each member account up to $250,000 through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), with additional insurance coverage for IRA accounts.
Our members pool their savings to make loans and provide other financial services to one another. Our primary purpose is to save our members money on the financial products and services they need and use every day.

The Southern was established in 1963 and has operated from headquarters in Fayetteville, Georgia since 1992. We operate within a limited geographic territory and serve a core group of southside communities in the counties of Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Henry, Spalding and Troup.
The Southern is a community-based business that supports local economic development, and we deliver the benefits of local presence and local ownership. We’re managed by the people we serve, and all our decisions are made locally.
