The Southern Credit Union is a federally insured, non-profit, member-owned, full-service financial cooperative. We were chartered in 1963 and established our headquarters in Fayetteville, Georgia in 1992. We serve a core group of Southside communities in the counties of Butts, Clayton, Coweta, Fayette, Fulton, Henry, Lamar, Meriwether, Spalding, Troup and Upson. We deliver the benefits of local presence and local ownership—supporting local employers and local economic development.
The Strength You Expect from a Partner
The Southern is chartered under the terms of the Federal Credit Union Act and regulated by the National Credit Union Administration (NCUA). Each member account is federally insured up to at least $250,000 through the National Credit Union Share Insurance Fund (NCUSIF), with additional insurance coverage for IRA accounts. The Southern operates solely for the benefit of its membership, working directly with Select Employee Groups (SEGs) that are enrolled as member organizations. SEGs qualify for organizational membership based on The Southern’s chartered field of membership. Individuals qualify for membership in one of two ways: They are an employee of an enrolled SEG, or they are a family member of an eligible credit union member. Individual members join the credit union by opening a savings account with a minimum deposit of $25. Membership is a permanent benefit, and members may relocate or retire and still retain their member status with The Southern.

We serve our members with pride, experience, professionalism and personal attention. Our front line employees are immediately responsive and relentless in their pursuit of member satisfaction. Senior level officers and managers are available and readily accessible, so members of all ages, titles and stages of professional development receive thoughtful consultation and quality feedback. Our automated TellerPhone service is available around the clock, but we also operate a call center with a staff that will always take the time to answer members’ questions personally. We know our members have a choice about where to place their trust, so everyone at The Southern works hard to earn our members’ business every day. Our first line of duty is service, not sales. We don’t pay sales commissions or set quotas for the products we offer, so our assistance really is focused on our members’ best interests—with no hidden agendas.

To become a select employee group simply send us a letter requesting credit union services for your employees. There is no fee for becoming a SEG, and your ongoing support requirements are minimal. We ask your support for our enrollment and development activities:
